I understand that many skating families must make tough decisions when they recognize their child has discovered their love of Ice Skating. This is something that usually catches a family by surprise. The young skater starts with "Learn to Skate", then they improve their skating skills little-by-little through US Figure Skating Basic Skills program and private lessons. They graduate from the basic skills program and take on more private lessons, which require more ice time, and more ballet classes, stretching classes, strength and conditioning classes soon follow. The young skater competes locally and the parents soon realize that the skater may be talented beyond what the current facilities offer. The Skating Family begins to research facilities throughout North America to see where the skater may have the best opportunity to improve and come closer to their dreams of becoming a US Champion, World Champion, and even an Olympic Champion!
There are few facilities where skaters can receive the training required by such a demanding, yet rewarding sport. One of the best facilities in the US is right here in Colorado Springs, CO at the World Arena Ice Hall. Some of the reasons why this facility provides the necessary training the skater needs and why it attracts so many of the country’s top level skaters is because of the World Class Coaches and Choreographers that reside here. Along with having some of the best coaches in the country, the World Arena Ice Hall offers three sheets of ice, one of them an 8,000 Seating Capacity Arena, ballet classes, stretching classes, and locker rooms. It offers training for Singles, Pairs Skating, and Ice Dancing. The facility also offers one of the best Summer Skate Programs in the country. In addition the World Arena Ice Hall is proud to call the US Olympic Committee, the Olympic Training Center, US Figure Skating National Headquarters, National Strength and Conditioning Association, and the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame it’s neighbors. Colorado Springs is located 6,000 Feet above sea level. All these training conditions and it’s close US Olympic ties give our athletes an advantage over other skaters in the country.
Most of the skaters that train in the World Arena are members of the world famous Broadmoor Skating Club. This Club and its facilities are recognized by US Figure Skating as one of the premier training sites in the country. The Broadmoor Skating Club offers its members a generous gifting program, and a “competition-like” opportunity for the skaters known as Fire & Ice throughout the skating season. Here is where the skaters polish their programs between competitions.
It is natural for skating families to choose Colorado Springs as their next destination for their child’s Ice Skating Career. All too often, one parent comes to Colorado Springs with their young skater and the rest of the family stays behind. This can be a difficult choice that places a burden on the family. Having a child who skates and has been competing 7 years, I understand the stress this move may place on a family. I believe being a father of an Ice Skating Family allows me to truly understand your needs in choosing the right place for you to live. I understand the sport’s demands, the schools that are flexible in providing your child a wonderful education and still allowing your child to train. I’m also compassionate toward the financial aspect of the move and take all this into consideration in assisting you and your loved ones in chasing your dreams.
